About IT & Tech work in Western Cape
Tech work in South Africa concentrates in Sandton, Rosebank and Midrand, in Cape Town’s Century City and Woodstock, and in a growing number of remote roles open to candidates anywhere in the country. Demand runs strongest for software engineering, cloud infrastructure and support desks. A degree helps, but AWS, Microsoft and CompTIA certifications are routinely accepted in its place for infrastructure and support work. The fastest way to stand out is to publish something — a GitHub repository or a short write-up of a home lab carries more weight than a CV line listing technologies you have merely touched.
Cape Town’s economy leans on tourism, hospitality, wine, business process outsourcing and a substantial technology sector. The call centre and BPO industry is a large and steady entry-level employer, particularly for matriculants with strong English fluency.
