Jobs by category in South Africa
Most job boards make you guess which job title an employer happened to use. We sort every listing into fourteen broad categories so you can browse a whole field at once — which matters when you are open to several related roles, or when you are changing careers and do not yet know the local job titles. The counts below are live from our board today.
Finance & Accounting — 114 live jobs
The largest category on the board. Bookkeepers, debtors and creditors clerks, payroll administrators, management accountants and financial managers, plus credit control and accounts-payable roles that rarely require a degree. Articles through SAICA or SAIPA remain the fastest route into chartered and professional accounting work.
Marketing & Media — 113 live jobs
Digital marketing leads demand — SEO and paid-media specialists, content writers, social-media managers and email marketers — alongside graphic designers, video editors, PR practitioners and brand managers. In this category a portfolio and demonstrable results usually weigh more than formal qualifications.
Engineering — 108 live jobs
Mechanical, electrical, civil, chemical and industrial engineers, plus technicians and draughtsmen. Mining, manufacturing, power generation, water infrastructure and construction are the main employers. ECSA registration, whether as a candidate or a professional engineer, materially improves both shortlisting and pay.
Admin & Office — 106 live jobs
Receptionists, switchboard operators, data capturers, office managers, personal and executive assistants, and general office support. This is the most common entry point into formal employment and the category most open to candidates without a tertiary qualification, provided computer literacy is solid.
Sales — 102 live jobs
Internal and external sales representatives, business development managers, account executives, telesales agents and retail sales staff. Many roles are target-driven with commission on top of a basic salary, and several employers hire on demonstrated ability rather than qualifications — which makes this a realistic route for school leavers.
Healthcare & Nursing — 96 live jobs
Professional nurses, enrolled nurses and enrolled nursing auxiliaries, carers, radiographers, pharmacists and allied health professionals. Registration with the HPCSA or SANC is required for clinical roles. Public hospitals, private hospital groups, frail-care facilities and home-based care providers all advertise steadily.
IT & Tech — 95 live jobs
Software developers, systems and network administrators, IT support technicians, data analysts and engineers, and cybersecurity specialists. This category carries the highest share of remote and hybrid listings on the board, and industry certifications are frequently accepted in place of a degree.
Teaching & Education — 82 live jobs
Foundation, intermediate and senior phase teachers, Further Education and Training lecturers, subject specialists and support staff. Public-school posts follow provincial department recruitment cycles, while independent schools and private colleges recruit year-round. SACE registration is required for teaching posts.
Logistics & Warehouse — 78 live jobs
Drivers on Code 8, 10 and 14, forklift operators, pickers and packers, dispatch and receiving clerks, inventory controllers and supply-chain coordinators. E-commerce and third-party logistics providers around Gauteng, Durban and Cape Town drive most of the volume. Licences and forklift certification matter more than qualifications.
Construction & Trades — 67 live jobs
Electricians, plumbers, welders, millwrights, fitters, carpenters, bricklayers and site supervisors. A Red Seal trade qualification is the single biggest lever on pay and employability, and qualified artisans remain chronically in short supply relative to demand across the country.
Hospitality & Catering — 63 live jobs
Chefs and cooks, kitchen staff, waiters, bartenders, baristas, hotel receptionists and housekeeping teams. Work is shift-based and often includes weekends and public holidays, with coastal metros, the Winelands and game-lodge regions hiring seasonally ahead of the summer holiday period.
Human Resources — 59 live jobs
HR officers and generalists, recruiters and talent acquisition specialists, payroll administrators, and industrial relations or labour-law specialists. A working knowledge of the BCEA, the LRA and the Employment Equity Act is expected at officer level and above.
Legal — 58 live jobs
Attorneys, candidate attorneys, conveyancers, legal advisors, compliance officers and paralegals. An LLB plus completed articles is the standard route to admission as an attorney. Compliance and governance roles inside financial services are the fastest-growing part of this category.
Security & General — 9 live jobs
Security officers and supervisors, access controllers and general labourers. PSIRA registration and grading is legally required for security work in South Africa, and shift availability is usually a condition of employment. It is our smallest category, but it refreshes frequently.
Not sure which category fits?
Browse the categories you already have experience in, plus the two adjacent to them — most career moves happen sideways rather than straight upwards. If you are entering the job market for the first time, Admin & Office, Sales and Logistics & Warehouse together account for the largest share of roles that do not require a degree.
Set a Telegram or WhatsApp alert for the categories that interest you and you will see new listings the day they are posted, rather than competing with everyone who finds them a week later.
