About Security & General work in KwaZulu-Natal
PSIRA registration is legally required for any security work in South Africa, and the grade you hold — A through E — determines what posts you may be assigned to. Guarding, access control and cash-in-transit all require registration that is current on the day you start. Registration lapses if annual fees go unpaid, so check your status on the PSIRA portal before you apply. Employers verify it the same day, and a lapsed registration ends the conversation.
Durban’s port drives KwaZulu-Natal employment: freight, logistics, manufacturing and sugar. Pietermaritzburg adds government and education. The reliable hiring pockets are the port-adjacent warehousing operations and the automotive corridor south of the city.
